Enjoy a conversation with the book's editors and scholars Jonathan D. Sarna and Ellen Smith, moderated by Rabbi Daniel Judson. Hear how this influential book became one of the most successful Jewish community histories in the country, and why it remains the definitive history of Jewish Boston to this day.

Barry Shrage

Barry Shrage was president of Combined Jewish Philanthropies for 31 years and was instrumental in the publication of The Jews of Boston. He currently teaches in the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program at Brandeis University.
Jonathan D. Sarna, PhD

Jonathan D. Sarna, PhD, co-editor of The Jews of Boston, is University Professor and the Joseph H. and Belle R. Braun Professor of American Jewish History at Brandeis University. He is also Chief Historian of the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History and chairs the Academic Advisory and Editorial Boards of the American Jewish Archives.
Ellen Smith
Ellen Smith, co-editor of The Jews of Boston, is Professor Emerita of Brandeis University where she directed the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program and taught courses in American Jewish history, museum studies, and visual and material culture.
Rabbi Daniel Judson
Rabbi Daniel Judson, panel moderator, is the Provost of Hebrew College and serves as a lecturer in Jewish history. He received his doctorate in Jewish History from Brandeis University and is currently working on a book on the history of American Zionism.
