Celebrated musician Percy Brand, who began studying violin at age 10 in his native Latvia, partly credited his survival during the Holocaust to his ability to play. After liberation from Buchenwald Concentration Camp, he played concerts for survivors and became the first Jew to perform Hebrew music over the radio in Frankfurt. In 1947, he immigrated to the United States where he continued to play Jewish music and advocate for Jewish causes.
