Women’s Auxiliary of Beth Israel Hospital

Women’s Auxiliary of Beth Israel Hospital, circa 1915.

Jewish women’s groups were essential fundraisers and champions of Jewish hospitals, advocating for culturally attuned medical care and ample, modern facilities. Thanks largely to their efforts, Beth Israel Hospital opened in 1917 on Townsend Street in Roxbury, serving the Boston Jewish population as it migrated southward.
