Postcard from William Marcus to Minnie Feldman, 1918.
Sweethearts William Marcus (born Wolf Shevitz, 1892–1978) and Minnie Feldman (1895–1982) exchanged frequent and adoring letters, postcards and even an envelope of rose petals while he was serving in the Army during World War One. They had met in Worcester when William was still going by his birth name Wolf Shevitz; according to family lore, he changed his name when he enlisted so that his family would not discover he had joined the Army. William was initially stationed at Camp Dix in New Jersey and served abroad in France and England. After being honorably discharged in 1919, the couple married on June 27, 1920. They had three sons and lived in Worcester, where William worked in the garment industry, eventually owning his own factory.
