Photo of a performance by the Kehillath Israel Brookline Sisterhood, circa 1950s.

Kehillath Israel Synagogue of Brookline, Massachusetts began as a small collective in 1911 before its establishment, with 36 members, in 1915. Kehillath Israel established a Sisterhood in 1919 and a Brotherhood in 1927. Both had thriving Glee Clubs and the sisterhood regularly staged theatrical performances, for many years all under the direction of singer and thespian Mary Wolfman Epstein.
